India Strikes Back After Pakistan’s Drone and Missile Attacks on Military Bases

May 9, 2025

**New Delhi:** Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated dramatically, with both nations engaging in cross-border military actions following a wave of drone and missile attacks. On Thursday, May 8, Pakistan launched multiple aerial assaults targeting Indian military installations in Punjab, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir. In a swift and calculated response, India retaliated with precision airstrikes under “Operation Sindoor,” hitting key Pakistani positions in Lahore, Sialkot, and Karachi.

### **Pakistan’s Provocation**

According to defense sources, Pakistan launched a coordinated drone and missile offensive targeting Indian Air Force bases in Jammu, Udhampur, and Pathankot. Most of the attacks were intercepted mid-air, thanks to India’s newly deployed S-400 Triumf missile defense system. There were no reports of major casualties or infrastructure damage on the Indian side.

In retaliation, the Indian Air Force carried out high-precision airstrikes on multiple Pakistani military installations, including radar bases and ammunition depots. The strikes reportedly caused significant damage to Pakistan’s air defense infrastructure. Notably, this marks the first active combat deployment of India’s S-400 system, which successfully neutralized over 80% of incoming threats.

### **Global Reactions and Appeals for Peace**

The United States, United Nations, and several other global powers have expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict and have urged both nations to exercise restraint. The White House issued a statement calling for an immediate ceasefire and a return to diplomatic dialogue.

### **Background**

The recent conflict appears to have been triggered by escalating tensions in the Kashmir region and recent strategic operations by India in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Defense analysts warn that if cooler heads do not prevail, the conflict could spiral into a broader military confrontation.
