Blocks Pakistani Journalists Amid Rising Tensions
In the wake of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India has taken strong digital action against Pakistan. The Indian government has suspended the X (formerly Twitter) account of Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and blocked several social media accounts of Pakistani journalists linked to the ISPR and ISI.
The crackdown follows a surge in misinformation and provocative content reportedly being circulated by Pakistani entities on social platforms. These accounts were accused of spreading fake news and misleading propaganda against the Indian Army and security agencies.
This is not the first move by India against Pakistani digital influence. Just a day earlier, India banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, including major networks like GNN, Geo News, Dawn News, and SAMAA TV. The Ministry of Home Affairs recommended these bans, citing concerns over incitement, communal tensions, and anti-India content.
India has held Pakistan responsible for orchestrating the Pahalgam terror attack, alleging that militants trained and funded by Pakistan were behind it. The Indian government has warned that Pakistan will be held accountable for its actions and is not in a forgiving mood this time.
These digital bans are part of India’s broader countermeasures, reinforcing its stance on national security and zero tolerance for terrorism and disinformation.
