In a landmark development, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the establishment of peace in the Middle East after signing the Gaza Peace Accord on Monday. Speaking at a high-level summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, attended by global leaders, Trump declared that “the world has achieved what was once thought impossible.”

The Sharm El-Sheikh summit was convened to discuss a long-term governance and reconstruction plan for Palestinian territories following the Gaza ceasefire. Earlier in the day, Trump had formally signed the ceasefire declaration in Gaza, making it legally binding. The agreement was also signed by leaders of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, who will serve as guarantors of the accord.

Prior to the summit, Trump made a surprise visit to Israel, where he joined celebrations marking the release of Israeli hostages and addressed the Israeli parliament before flying to Egypt. Speaking before more than twenty global leaders, Trump said, “This is a historic day for the world — and a defining day for the Middle East. This document clarifies the principles and commitments that will guide peace and stability for generations.”

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who co-chaired the summit with Trump, hailed the agreement as the region’s “last and best chance for peace.” Reiterating his call for a two-state solution, El-Sisi emphasized that Palestinians have the full right to live in an independent nation. During the ceremony, he also awarded Trump with Egypt’s highest civilian honor — the Order of the Nile — in recognition of his diplomatic efforts.

The Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh hosted more than twenty world leaders, including Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the French President, and the British Prime Minister. The summit marked the official conclusion of hostilities and the beginning of a coordinated plan to rebuild Gaza and stabilize the region.

Before the meeting, Hamas released the remaining 20 Israeli hostages, while Israel freed hundreds of Palestinian detainees, signaling mutual goodwill after years of devastating conflict.

With the signing of this accord, global leaders and observers hailed the moment as the dawn of a new era of peace and cooperation in one of the world’s most volatile regions.
