Hindu Youth Murder Sparks Outrage in Pakistan: ‘Jai Shri Ram’ Chants Echo Through Sindh Streets

Badin (Sindh): Following recent unrest in Bangladesh, a brutal murder of a Hindu youth in Pakistan’s Sindh province has ignited massive protests. In Badin district’s Talhar tehsil, a powerful landlord allegedly shot dead a poor Hindu laborer over a minor dispute.

Trigger: A Simple Shelter Dispute

Reports identify the victim as Kailash Kolhi, who worked on the fields of local landlord Sarfaraz Nizamani. Kailash had built a temporary shelter on the farmland for his family, which the landlord opposed. During the ensuing argument, Sarfaraz reportedly fired a shot into Kailash’s chest, killing him on the spot.

Protests Erupt Across the City

The incident triggered waves of grief and fury throughout Badin city. Thousands of Hindus—men, women, and children—took to the streets in protest.

  • Chants and Demands: Demonstrators raised ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans while demanding justice.

  • Genocide Allegations: Shiva Kachhi, president of the Pakistan Darbar Ittehad, labeled it “systematic genocide” of minorities. He claimed that Kolhi, Bheel, and Meghwar communities face severe mistreatment in Sindh.

Exposing Sindh’s Feudal Exploitation

This case highlights Sindh’s notorious feudal system, where poor laborers are treated like “rabbits” and remain entirely at the mercy of landlords.

Key Demands from Protesters

Hindu leaders and human rights groups have presented these demands to the administration:

  • Immediate arrest of prime suspect Sarfaraz Nizamani.

  • Charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

  • Government protection for the victim’s family against threats from the landlord.

  • High-level intervention by Sindh’s Chief Minister and IG Sindh for a thorough probe.
