Surrey, Canada – June 11, 2025:
Tensions are rising within the Hindu community in Surrey, Canada, after yet another targeted shooting incident. Satish Kumar, a prominent businessman and the president of the Lakshmi Narayan Mandir, has once again come under attack. This incident comes just days ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Canada for the G7 Summit, making the situation more alarming.
According to sources, Satish Kumar received a threatening phone call from an unidentified number demanding a ransom of 2 million Canadian dollars. Upon refusing to pay, his properties were targeted in two separate shooting incidents over the past 48 hours. The most recent occurred on June 7, when unknown assailants fired 14 rounds at one of his buildings. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
In a public statement, Kumar revealed that the extortionists became aggressive during a heated phone exchange. He alleged that individuals from within the local community may be leaking sensitive information to assist the extortionists. The incident has left the Hindu community in Surrey deeply shaken. Kumar has urged unity and collective resistance against such violent acts.
Surrey Police have launched an investigation and visited the crime scene to gather evidence, record witness statements, and review nearby CCTV footage. Notably, this isn’t the first time the Kumar family has been targeted—two years ago, his son’s residence was also shot at.
This marks the fourth attack linked to the Lakshmi Narayan Mandir or its officials. In recent months, an alarming rise in attacks on Hindu temples and extortion cases has stirred fear and concern among the Indo-Canadian population. Community leaders are calling for stronger security measures and swift justice.
Meanwhile, Indian PM Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta from June 15 to 17, following an invitation from Canadian PM Mark Carney. Modi confirmed the visit on social media, highlighting the diplomatic engagement.
However, the visit is expected to face stiff opposition from pro-Khalistan groups in Canada, who have announced protest plans accusing the Indian government of suppressing Sikh and minority rights.
The escalating violence against Hindu figures and institutions in Canada, especially in the lead-up to high-level international diplomacy, underscores the growing concerns over public safety and community security. While investigations are ongoing, members of the Hindu community are demanding immediate action and heightened protection. The issue has become increasingly sensitive in light of PM Modi’s imminent presence on Canadian soil.
