IMD Weather Update: Torrential rains have once again wreaked havoc in the hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand as the monsoon makes a strong return. The downpour has triggered landslides, flash floods, and widespread damage, while the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rainfall for Delhi-NCR and issued an orange alert in several districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours has severely disrupted normal life in Himachal and Uttarakhand. In Mandi, landslides have damaged key roads, cutting off several areas. Cloudbursts were reported in Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple, Karligarh, and Sahastradhara, causing significant destruction. Rising water levels in rivers have further increased the threat of flash floods.
According to IMD, Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are likely to receive rainfall between September 16 and 19, bringing relief from the persistent humid heat. The weather department has predicted cloudy skies and a drop in temperature for at least three days.
The IMD has sounded an orange alert for more than 30 districts of Uttar Pradesh, warning of heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning. Districts such as Ayodhya, Gonda, Barabanki, Amethi, Rae Bareli, and Sultanpur are expected to be worst affected. The advisory urges residents to remain cautious over the next 48 hours.
In Bihar, a yellow alert has been issued for several districts, including Gopalganj, West Champaran, East Champaran, Siwan, and Saran. These regions are expected to witness moderate to heavy rainfall in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the IMD has confirmed that the monsoon has already withdrawn from Rajasthan and Gujarat, where dry conditions have prevailed for the past few days. However, parts of Haryana, Delhi, and eastern Rajasthan may still see light showers.
