Tehran: March 25, 2026
Tensions in the Middle East have once again reached their peak. In a shocking claim today, the Iranian military stated that its navy targeted the powerful American warship, USS Abraham Lincoln, with cruise missiles. According to Admiral Shahram Irani, Chief of the Iranian Navy, this attack involving ‘Qader’ anti-ship missiles forced the U.S. carrier to change its course. This incident comes just days after U.S. President Donald Trump had signaled a potential pause in strikes against Iran.
In a statement broadcast on Iran’s state media (Press TV), military officials issued a direct warning to the United States, asserting that their Strike Group is under continuous surveillance.
The Attack: Iran claims to have fired shore-based cruise missiles from its southern coast, some of which allegedly struck the vessel or forced it to retreat.
Admiral’s Warning: Admiral Shahram Irani stated, “As soon as this hostile fleet comes within range of our missile systems, it will be subjected to even more crushing strikes.”
Diplomatic Stance: Tehran has dismissed Washington’s recent diplomatic outreach as a “mere show,” declaring that they will not back down under any circumstances.
This escalation follows a brief period where President Donald Trump appeared to show some restraint by extending a 48-hour ultimatum—previously issued to “obliterate” Iranian power plants if the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened. On March 23, Trump had even noted “productive conversations” aimed at a resolution.
However, Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for the Iranian military, countered this by claiming that American “strategic power” has now turned into a “strategic defeat.” This missile strike has dealt a severe blow to regional peace efforts, and all eyes are now on the White House for its next response.
