In a shocking revelation from Karnataka, a man has confessed to burning and disposing of bodies of rape victims over a span of 16 years, from 1998 to 2014. The man, who worked as a sanitation worker in Dharmasthala, claimed he was forced into this role and remained silent out of fear. His voluntary confession to the police after over a decade has reignited questions about the dark secrets buried behind the facade of spiritual and religious sanctity in some areas.
The man approached the police on his own, revealing that he had been destroying the bodies of women and girls who were allegedly raped and murdered. He stated that he initially believed these were cases of suicide or accidental drowning. However, as more and more bodies appeared—many naked, bruised, and bearing clear signs of sexual assault and violence—he realized the horrific reality.
Among the bodies, he said, were many belonging to school-going girls. The level of trauma and brutality evident on their corpses left no doubt in his mind that they were victims of heinous crimes. Photos of some skeletal remains and burnt bodies, shared by the man with authorities, added disturbing authenticity to his claims.
According to his statement, the first body he was ordered to dispose of appeared in 1998. When he initially refused to comply and suggested reporting it to the police, he was severely beaten by his supervisor. Fearing for his own life and the safety of his family, he continued obeying instructions under duress.
Haunted by guilt for years, the man claimed he was burning in the fire of remorse and finally decided to step forward to help the victims get justice. He has requested police protection and asked that his identity be kept confidential for his family’s safety. He mentioned fleeing the religious site with his family over a decade ago and hiding in a neighboring state since.
The Dharmasthala police have now registered a formal case after obtaining court approval. An investigation is underway to verify his claims, identify potential accomplices, and uncover the full extent of the crimes covered up over nearly two decades.
This chilling confession not only exposes a gruesome series of alleged rapes and murders but also raises disturbing questions about the systematic suppression of justice and how such crimes remained buried for so long.
