Germany invites Indians after Trump’s H-1B move, says rules don’t change overnight
Berlin/New Delhi – September 24, 2025
U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to hike fees for H-1B visas has unsettled thousands of skilled Indian professionals who rely heavily on this program to work in America. But as Washington tightens its grip, Europe is opening new doors. Germany, in particular, has extended a strong invitation to Indians, assuring them of stable migration policies and better opportunities.
Reacting swiftly to Trump’s move, German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann, urged skilled Indians to consider Germany as their career destination. In a post on social media platform X, Ackermann highlighted that Germany offers significant opportunities in IT, management, science, and technology.
“All highly skilled Indians are welcome to build their careers in Germany. Our immigration system is stable and transparent, and unlike elsewhere, rules here don’t change overnight,” Ackermann wrote.
In a video message accompanying his post, the ambassador emphasized the contributions of Indians already working in Germany. “On average, Indians earn more than Germans in the same roles. Their higher earnings reflect not only their talent but also the value they add to our society. They are helping us grow stronger as a nation,” he said.
Ackermann drew a sharp contrast between Trump’s unpredictable visa measures and Germany’s consistent policies. Comparing them to German cars, he remarked: “Our migration policy is reliable, modern, and predictable. It doesn’t come to a sudden halt or take random turns.”
Trump’s move to increase H-1B visa costs has raised concerns among Indian IT professionals, who form the largest share of applicants. With America tightening access, Germany and other European countries are positioning themselves as attractive alternatives, hoping to benefit from the influx of skilled talent.
