FIR Registered Against AAP MLA Pathanmajra in Haryana, Manhunt Intensifies

In a dramatic turn of events, an FIR has been filed in Haryana against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra from Sanaur constituency, who recently escaped from Punjab Police custody. His social media account—through which he had been releasing videos—has also been deactivated.

The Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), led by encounter specialist DSP Bikramjeet Singh Brar, has now been tasked with arresting the fugitive MLA. This comes nearly 24 hours after Pathanmajra fled from police custody in Dabri village of Haryana’s Karnal district.

The Escape and FIR
According to police sources, the CIA wing of Punjab Police lodged a complaint at Karnal Sadar police station against Pathanmajra and his associate Gurnam Singh Laddi. They were accused of obstructing government work, firing shots, and leading a mob that pelted stones at the police team.

The FIR notes that Pathanmajra was initially arrested around 5 a.m. during a raid at Laddi’s residence in Dabri village. However, while being transported to Patiala, the MLA allegedly managed to escape with the help of villagers. Gunshots were reportedly heard during the chaos, though police did not fire back.

High-Profile Officer Leads the Hunt
DSP Bikramjeet Brar, known for his encounter operations, is now spearheading the manhunt. Brar was honored with the President’s Gallantry Medal last year for eliminating two shooters involved in singer Sidhu Moosewala’s murder. He has also played a role in operations against notorious gangster Vicky Gounder.

Pathanmajra’s Counterclaim
Meanwhile, the MLA has released several videos in which he claims he is being falsely targeted. In his most recent video, he alleged that police were planning a staged encounter to eliminate him.

“I never fired a shot. I spoke to the officers, offered them tea and water, and then left. There was no clash,” Pathanmajra asserted. He accused Punjab Police of branding him as a gangster to justify killing him in a fake encounter.

The MLA also posed questions to the police: “Did I push anyone? Did I fight or fire? If not, why am I being portrayed this way?”

Claims of Conspiracy
Pathanmajra further alleged that more than 400 police personnel, along with several SPs and DSPs, had been deployed to capture him, including encounter specialist DSP Brar. “They wanted to stage my killing as if I were a gangster. After I left, they even showed that three pistols were recovered. These are cheap tricks. The police must stop this,” he said.

Challenging the crackdown, the MLA added: “How can this man from Delhi (a reference to senior officers) scare us? We are not afraid of even great invaders like Ahmad Shah Abdali. I call upon all MLAs and ministers to stand united. There is no need to fear.”

Background
The MLA had escaped police custody two days ago, raising serious questions about lapses in security and coordination between Punjab and Haryana Police. With the FIR now registered in Haryana and AGTF stepping in, the hunt for Pathanmajra has intensified, but the MLA continues to release videos denying the charges and alleging a larger conspiracy against him.
