FBI Releases Image of ‘Person of Interest’ in Charlie Kirk Assassination
The FBI has released the image of a “person of interest” in connection with the killing of American right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the individual. Kirk was shot dead on Wednesday by a sniper while participating in an event at a university in Utah.
The shooting took place at Utah Valley University, where Kirk was attending a debate organized by his conservative group, Turning Point USA. During the session, he was addressing social issues and responding to a question about gun violence when a sudden gunshot struck him in the neck. Disturbing videos of the incident have since circulated widely across social media platforms.
Authorities believe the attacker fired from a rooftop before fleeing into a nearby area. A high-powered bolt-action rifle, believed to have been used in the attack, was later recovered by investigators. Law enforcement is also analyzing surveillance footage in hopes of tracking the suspect’s movements.
Kirk, a close ally of former President Donald Trump, received tributes from across the political spectrum. President Trump expressed sorrow over his death and announced that Kirk would be posthumously awarded the nation’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha, are traveling to Salt Lake City to meet with Kirk’s family.
In a statement posted on X, the FBI’s Salt Lake City office said:
“We are seeking the public’s help to identify this person of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University.”
The investigation remains ongoing, with federal and local authorities working jointly to apprehend the suspect and determine the motive behind the assassination.
