Dhaka — Tremors of an earthquake were felt in neighboring Bangladesh on Sunday, with the impact reaching parts of India’s Meghalaya state. Authorities confirmed that there were no reports of casualties or property damage.
According to officials, the quake in Bangladesh measured 4.0 on the Richter scale and was recorded at 11:49 a.m. (IST) near the Bangladesh-Meghalaya border. Tremors were also experienced in Meghalaya, but no damage was reported there either.
On the same day, earthquake tremors were also recorded in Gujarat’s Kutch district. A quake of magnitude 3.1 struck at 12:41 p.m., with its epicenter located about 12 kilometers northeast of Bhachau. Earlier in the morning, at around 6:41 a.m., another mild tremor measuring 2.6 was also reported in the region.
District disaster management officials stated that no loss of life or property occurred in Kutch due to these quakes. The region is categorized as a “high-risk” seismic zone, where low-intensity earthquakes occur frequently.
Kutch has a history of devastating quakes, most notably the 2001 Bhuj earthquake, which was the third largest and second most destructive earthquake in India in the last two centuries, claiming nearly 13,800 lives.
