Donald Trump Expresses Disappointment Over Not Winning Nobel Peace Prize: “If I Stop One War, They Tell Me to Stop the Next”
U.S. President Donald Trump has once again voiced his disappointment over not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, saying he had helped prevent multiple wars but was still overlooked by the Nobel Committee. Trump remarked that each time he managed to stop a war, people told him he would get the prize only if he stopped the next one.
Speaking during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where discussions centered around resolving the Russia–Ukraine conflict, Trump said, “I have solved eight wars. Go to Rwanda and Congo, go to Thailand… or talk about India and Pakistan. Look at all the wars we’ve stopped. But every time I stop one, they say, ‘If you stop the next war, you’ll get the Nobel Prize.’”
Trump made the comments in a calm tone but with a clear sense of frustration. He added, “I didn’t get the Nobel Prize. It went to someone else — a very nice woman. I don’t even know who she is, but she’s very generous, I’m told. Honestly, I don’t care anymore. I just care about saving lives. But this would have been the ninth war. As far as I know, no other U.S. president has ever stopped a single war. Bush started one, but I’ve saved millions of lives.”
Referring to comments made by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during a recent summit in Egypt, Trump continued, “The Pakistani Prime Minister said I saved millions of lives. Take Pakistan and India, for instance — that could have been a terrible situation. I hear Pakistan just attacked Afghanistan. If I had to solve that, it would be very easy for me. I have to run America too, but I like solving wars. You know why? Because I like stopping people from dying, and in the last few months, I’ve saved millions of lives.”
Trump’s fascination with the Nobel Peace Prize is well known. Since taking office, he has repeatedly claimed to deserve the honor for his diplomatic efforts. The former president, who says he helped resolve eight global conflicts — including the Gaza war — was nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize by several countries, including Pakistan and Israel. However, the award went instead to Marina Machado, a Venezuelan opposition leader.
According to the Nobel Committee, nominations for the 2025 prize closed on January 31. In light of Trump’s continued push for global peace initiatives, both Israel and the United States have reportedly launched a campaign to back his nomination for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, with several other nations, including Pakistan, supporting the idea.
