Delhi Metro Fare Hike: Travel Becomes Costlier, Longest Journey Now ₹64
New Delhi, August 25, 2025: Commuting by Delhi Metro has become more expensive as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has revised fares for passengers. The new rates, effective from Monday, August 25, 2025, were announced through a post on social media platform X. Under the new structure, fares have been increased by a minimum of ₹1 and up to ₹4, while on the Airport Express Line, the hike goes up to ₹5.
DMRC clarified that this is a “nominal revision” based on distance traveled. The last fare hike was implemented in 2017, making this the first increase in eight years. Notably, for the first time, the revision has been carried out without setting up a Fare Fixation Committee, as the previous committee had already allowed for such adjustments in the future.
Officials explained that Delhi Metro is nearing the completion of Phase 4 expansion, which will significantly increase maintenance and operational costs. To manage these expenses, a minor upward revision in fares was deemed necessary.
