On Tuesday, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrested a soldier, Adarshdeep Singh, from the CIA-2 staff stationed in Amritsar for demanding a bribe of ₹60,000. He was accused of asking for the bribe in exchange for not filing an FIR against his neighbor, a drug dealer.

According to the information provided by the official spokesperson of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, this arrest was made following a complaint registered under the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line. The complaint was filed by an Amritsar resident.

The complaint revealed that the accused soldier had demanded ₹60,000 as a bribe to avoid registering an FIR against his neighbor, Kishan Kumar, who was previously involved in drug trafficking but had reformed and is now working as a private security guard. The CIA-2, Amritsar team had previously raided Kishan Kumar’s house but found nothing illegal.

Further investigation revealed that the accused soldier had already taken ₹50,000 as part of the bribe and was demanding the remaining amount.

The spokesperson confirmed that the allegations in the complaint were found to be true during the investigation. Subsequently, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the accused at the Amritsar Range Vigilance Bureau police station. The accused has been arrested and will be presented in court tomorrow. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
