The Indian Navy has officially confirmed that China is supplying advanced submarines to Pakistan, with their deployment expected to begin in the near future. Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, revealed this during the Swaavlamban 2025 event in New Delhi, emphasizing that India is closely monitoring every development in the region.
Speaking to reporters, Vice Admiral Vatsayan said, “Yes, it is true, and we are fully aware of it. We know that China is supplying submarines to Pakistan. Their deployment will begin very soon. We are keeping a close watch on the situation.”
Vatsayan also confirmed that China has inducted Fujian, its third and most technologically advanced aircraft carrier, into its naval fleet. Equipped with an Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS), the carrier is being described by defense observers as a major leap in China’s naval capabilities.
The Fujian was formally commissioned earlier this month in a closed ceremony attended by President Xi Jinping, highlighting Beijing’s ongoing drive to expand and modernize its maritime strength.
China’s military supplies to Pakistan—including submarines, drones, and other equipment—have been a long-standing concern for India. The confirmation by the Indian Navy comes amid heightened regional tensions and an increased focus on maritime security in the Indian Ocean.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has praised a recent report submitted to the U.S. Congress, calling it evidence of Pakistan’s “military success” over India during the four-day conflict earlier this year in May.
Pakistan’s key ally, China, however, has rejected the same report, calling it “misleading and inaccurate.”
According to Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper, Sharif also lauded Army Chief Gen. Asim Munir’s leadership during an event in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission’s report, which sparked debate, discusses India-Pakistan military exchanges and the use of Chinese weapons systems by Pakistan.
The Indian Navy has reiterated that it remains prepared for any contingency. Continuous surveillance, capability enhancement, and strengthened maritime domain awareness are being prioritized to counter evolving security challenges in the region.
