Chandigarh Administration announced new Excise Policy for FY 2026-27, effective April 1, 2026. Major changes benefit liquor enthusiasts and traders—24-hour hotel service and modest price rise.
Category ‘A’ Hotels: 24-hour liquor service. Other categories pay ₹30 lakh annual fee for same. Mini-bars allowed in rooms.
Extended Bar Hours: Regular 11 AM-1 AM; +₹8 lakh fee extends to 3 AM (last order 2 AM).
Extra Bars: Licensees pay 75% additional base fee for more bars on premises.
Alcohol Meters: Mandatory in all bars/restaurants to curb drunk driving.
Digital Payments: Bills + POS mandatory per sale; ₹5,000 fine for violations.
CCTV Surveillance: Full monitoring to prevent smuggling.
Price Increase: 2% hike on Indian liquor/beer. Imported liquor/wine/beer unchanged.
Costliest Tender: Plosora village (Mohali border) at ₹11.41 crore reserve.
Dept Stores: L-10B license revived—liquor sales in big departmental stores for shopper convenience.
