CBI Raids Income Tax Office in Patna, Detains Inspector and Staff Over ₹2 Lakh Bribery Case

In a major development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a surprise raid on the Income Tax Department office in Patna on Tuesday evening. The action was taken following credible information related to a ₹2 lakh bribery case involving officials of the department.
According to sources, a CBI team arrived unannounced at the Income Tax office and created a stir among the staff and officials present. The team detained two employees for questioning — one inspector from the department’s research branch and one multitasking staff (MTS) member. The two are currently in CBI custody and are being interrogated as part of the preliminary investigation.
Sources revealed that the raid was prompted by concrete inputs suggesting a bribery transaction within the office premises. Though the case allegedly involves a bribe of ₹2 lakh, no official confirmation has yet been issued either by the CBI or by the Income Tax Department as of late Tuesday night.
The sudden action caught many by surprise, and officials within the department have so far refrained from commenting on the matter. There has also been no clarification from the department regarding whether the two detained employees have been suspended or formally charged.
The CBI is expected to issue an official statement once the initial round of investigation concludes. This development marks another instance in CBI’s ongoing crackdown on corruption within government offices.
