Sobral, Ceará, Brazil | Sept 26, 2025 – A tragic shooting erupted at a school in northeastern Brazil, leaving two students dead and three others injured. The attack occurred in broad daylight when motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire near the school’s parking area.
According to police reports, the shooting took place in the city of Sobral, Ceará state, on Thursday afternoon. Eyewitnesses said the attackers fired multiple rounds for about three to four minutes before fleeing the scene.
Five students were struck by bullets. Two teenagers, including a 16-year-old boy, died on the spot. Three others were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors said their conditions were stable but being closely monitored.
Investigators suspect that the shooting may be linked to drug-related activities. During the initial probe, authorities discovered electronic weighing machines and packaging material at the scene — items commonly associated with narcotics distribution. While officials have not confirmed a direct connection, they have not ruled out the possibility that the violence stemmed from conflicts within the drug trade.
Following the attack, security around the school has been tightened. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to track the movements of the motorcycle-riding gunmen. Additional patrols have been deployed to reassure parents and prevent further violence.
Ceará Governor Elmano de Freitas condemned the incident, calling it a cowardly act.
“We will not tolerate violence in our schools or public spaces. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims, and I assure them that justice will be done,” he said.
The governor also instructed state investigation agencies to handle the case with the utmost seriousness and bring the perpetrators to justice.
