Bikram S Majithia condemns Amritsar police for trying to pass off councilor Harjinder Singh’s  death as a case of gang rivalry

(Says the murderers were involved in spurious liquor and drug trafficking under the patronage of MLA Harbhajan Singh ETO)

Amritsar, May 27 – Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia today condemned the Amritsar Police for trying to pass off the murder of SAD councilor Harjinder Singh as a case of gang rivalry, saying the actual fact was that the murderers were involved in spurious liquor and drug trafficking with the active support of the local police and Jandiala Guru Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Harbhajan Singh ETO.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Bikram Majithia also ridiculed the police for trumpeting that it had solved the murder case in eight hours. “Where were the police when Harjinder was attacked on February 19? The same persons fired at his residence for seven minutes but the police did nothing. Even Harjinder’s pleas to SHO Harchand Singh proved futile with the SHO asserting he could not do anything in the matter due to pressure from the AAP legislator”.

Asserting that Harjinder Singh had fallen victim to the collusion between AAP leaders and gangsters, Mr Majithia said “if the police had acted promptly and taken action on numerous complaints submitted by Harjinder from the level of the Sub Inspector of Jandiala Guru to the Senior Superintendent of Police he would have been alive today”. He also cited how the accused had taken credit for firing at Harjinder but no action was taken against them.

Mr Majithia also detailed how more than 30 persons had been murdered in the city this month itself which was a clear indication of the complete breakdown in the law and order situation in the district. He said chief minister Bhagwant Mann should take responsibility for the same. “We have witnessed gruesome killings including one in a congested gully when a person was shot dead at close range while driving a scooter. Even Harjinder was killed at a most congested spot near Chehearta Sahib gurudwara and that the incident could have claimed other lives also”. He also asked what the police were doing to ward off such incidents. The police only wake up after the incident and then claim success in either solving it or smearing and defaming the victims.
