Bangladesh: Hindu Man Beaten Brutally, Attempted Live Burning; Latest in Wave of Minority Attacks
Violence against Hindus continues unabated in Bangladesh. In Shariatpur district, 50-year-old Hindu medicine seller Khokon Das was viciously attacked on December 31 while returning home. Assailants first slashed him with sharp weapons, beat him severely, then doused his body in petrol and tried to set him ablaze. Khokon, critically injured, is receiving treatment at a local hospital.
December 18, 2025 (Mymensingh’s Bhaluka): Hindu garment worker Deepu Chandra Das was accused of blasphemy by a mob, beaten, hanged from a tree, and burned alive—leading to his death. Police arrested several after investigation found no evidence.

Under Muhammad Yunus’s interim government, attacks on minorities including Hindus have surged, drawing global concern and condemnation from human rights groups. Last week, India expressed “grave concern” over “systematic hostility” toward minorities, stating it is closely monitoring its neighbor.
