Afghanistan Shaken by Another Earthquake; Third Tremor in One Week
Kabul: Afghanistan experienced another earthquake on Saturday morning, registering a magnitude of 4.4. This marks the third earthquake to hit the country in just one week. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the quake occurred at a depth of 180 kilometers. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), NCS wrote:

Just a day earlier, on Friday, another 4.4-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Afghanistan, but it originated at a shallow depth of only 10 kilometers. Earthquakes with such shallow depths are considered more dangerous because the seismic waves reach the surface with greater force.
Earlier, on November 4, a powerful 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck northern Afghanistan. At least 27 people lost their lives and more than 950 others were injured. The quake, which occurred near the city of Mazar-e-Sharif, also damaged one of the city’s well-known historic mosques.
Experts say the Hindu Kush mountain region of Afghanistan is one of the world’s most seismically active zones. The frequent earthquakes occur due to the ongoing collision between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) has noted that Afghanistan is already struggling with decades of conflict and underdevelopment, which increases the impact of natural disasters and makes recovery more difficult.
