Western Disturbance Active; Rain Warning in Delhi and 22 States
Northern India, including Delhi, is expected to receive relief from intense heat as a storm moves in at a speed of 70 kilometers per hour. Thunderstorms, lightning, and hail are forecasted across eastern and central India. From May 1 onwards, northwestern India may witness a fresh spell of rain accompanied by thunderstorms, dust storms, and strong winds.
Current Situation:
Two low-pressure cyclonic circulations are active-one over northeastern Assam and another over northern Bangladesh in the lower tropospheric layers. A cyclonic circulation is also present over southwestern Rajasthan, stretching from western Vidarbha to northern Kerala along a north-south axis.
Northeast India:
Over the next five days, heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected. Wind speeds may increase from 40-50 km/h to as high as 60 km/h. On April 29, Assam and Meghalaya are likely to experience storms with winds ranging from 50 to 70 km/h. Rainfall is also expected in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh during this period.
Eastern and Central India:
From April 29 to May 2, light to moderate rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning is forecast in eastern Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha (Maharashtra), and Chhattisgarh. Odisha may experience rain and hail from April 29 to May 1.
Southern India:
Thunderstorms with lightning are expected in Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry over the next seven days. Winds may blow at speeds of 30-50 km/h.
Northwestern India:
A fresh and active western disturbance is expected to impact northwestern India from May 2. This will bring rain and thunderstorms to the western Himalayan region and the plains of northwest India from April 30 to May 4. Winds of 30-40 km/h are expected. Dust storms with reduced visibility are likely in eastern Uttar Pradesh on April 29-30, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on May 1, and Rajasthan on May 1-2.
Over the next three days, maximum temperatures in northwestern India will remain largely unchanged, followed by a drop of 2-4 degrees Celsius over the next four days.
Central India may see a rise in maximum temperatures by 2-4 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
Maharashtra’s maximum temperatures will stay steady for the next five days, with a slight dip of 2-3 degrees Celsius expected in the next two days.
Gujarat may experience a 2-3 degree Celsius increase in maximum temperatures over the next four days.
On Sunday, Barmer in Rajasthan recorded the highest temperature in the country at 46.1 degrees Celsius.
In the last 24 hours, Delhi NCR recorded a drop of 3-5 degrees Celsius in minimum temperatures and a 1-degree drop in maximum temperatures.
Maximum temperatures ranged between 40-42 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures were between 22-26 degrees Celsius.
On April 29, skies are expected to be cloudy with chances of light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Dust storms with wind speeds of 30-50 km/h are also likely.
On April 30 and May 1, Delhi and surrounding districts will experience cloudy weather with strong winds.
Storms moving at 70 km/h will bring relief from heat in northern India.
Rain, thunderstorms, and dust storms are expected across 22 states including Delhi.
An active western disturbance will influence weather patterns from May 2 onwards.
